My story of how I become involved in grant writing.
I have been doing marketing and sales work for over 25 years but I have always had a great passion for philanthropic and community service work. I loved making a difference in the community and in the world in general. While I had a career, my ultimate goal was to be a philanthropist so I enjoyed staying involved with several organizations.
During my time with one particular foundation, I discovered the importance of grant writing. Our team of volunteers had been working on fundraising efforts. We spent so much time working to raise the funds for our end of the year project but everyone was busy and it we just couldn’t seem to make the numbers we needed.
I had heard about the grant writing process but it wasn’t until then that I did some research online and read some books about the process of writing the grants. While I found the information from research to be a little scattered, I still managed to complete the process and submit the paperwork for the grant.
When I received the results, I was ecstatic. I was able to secure a large grant for the cause, which totaled out to be over a third of our annual budget. We celebrated the success as a team and that is when I began to think about streamlining the process in order to help other people who are looking to get a grant for there organizations.
As I went through the grant writing process based on what I had learned from my online and book research, I kept notes and ideas to simplify the process for the next time around. I knew what needed to be included in the content of the writing and I knew where I could find the grant makers. It occurred to me that a computer program could be created to make the process even simpler if I could only find someone to write the code. While many quotes came in way out of my budget, I finally got the help of a university student and within the year, Ezy Grant Writer was born.
I think the tool I have created helps people get over the most difficult part of the process that I call “white fright”, which is what happens in the beginning when you are looking at the white sheet of paper and wondering how to start. The program is an excellent tool for combating that initial writer’s block.

I really enjoy my time working with charities and volunteering and I feel good knowing that I may help these organization have more time to focus on the important work they intend to do, rather than struggle with fundraising efforts that can monopolize their time. Grant writing is certainly a process but now it doesn’t have to be a difficult process.
